Nussbaum in Religious Intolerance (2012) suggests that “ugly fears and suspicions that currently disfigure all Western societies” (p.2). She argues that fear typically stems from a real problem. Most fears are related to a real, significant issue like national and economic security. However, for her, the relationship between the threatening matter and the religious minorities that the fear is projected is fictitious. It is “a product of ignorance and fantasy propelled by political rhetoric”(p.21)
